So you’ve decided to book a self love photography session—first of all, congratulations! Taking this step to celebrate yourself is huge, and I’m genuinely excited for you. Whether you’re preparing for your big day with our bridal empowerment sessions or simply ready to see yourself through a new lens, I want you to feel completely prepared and confident walking into your session.
As someone who’s guided hundreds of women through self love photo sessions across Long Island and NYC, I’ve learned what really makes a difference in creating images you’ll treasure forever. This isn’t about perfect poses or looking like someone you’re not—it’s about capturing the real, beautiful you.
Before Your Session: Mindset Matters Most
Here’s what I tell every client who walks into my Long Island studio: the most important thing you can bring to your self love photography session is an open heart. I know that might sound a little woo-woo, but stay with me.
Your session isn’t just about getting pretty pictures (though you’ll definitely get those). It’s about reconnecting with yourself, celebrating your journey, and seeing your beauty through fresh eyes. Take some time before your session to journal about what brought you here. What do you want to feel during your session? What do you want to remember about this moment in your life?
What to Bring to Your NYC Self Love Photo Session
Wardrobe That Makes You Feel Like You
Forget what you think you “should” wear. Bring outfits that make you feel incredible when you put them on. That could be a flowing dress, your favorite jeans and a white tee, lingerie that makes you feel powerful, or even that vintage blazer you’ve been saving for a special occasion.
I recommend bringing 2-3 outfit options to your session. We’ll chat about what feels right in the moment. And if you’re coming from Manhattan or anywhere in the NYC tri-state area, don’t stress about overpacking—my studio has everything you need to touch up and change comfortably.
Personal Items That Tell Your Story
Want to bring your grandmother’s necklace? Your journal? Fresh flowers from your favorite Long Island market? Do it. These personal touches make your images uniquely yours. I’ve had clients bring everything from vintage books to their morning coffee mug, and those details always create the most meaningful shots.
The Day Before: Self Care Rituals
The day before your session, treat yourself gently. Get enough sleep (I know, easier said than done in NYC, right?). Drink plenty of water. Do a face mask if that’s your thing. Move your body in whatever way feels good—whether that’s a yoga class, a walk along the beach, or dancing in your living room.
If you’re getting professional hair and makeup done, schedule it for the morning of your session. But here’s a secret: some of my favorite images happen when clients show up exactly as they are, fresh-faced and real.
Day of Your Session: What to Expect
When you arrive at the studio, we’ll start with conversation, not camera clicks. I want to know how you’re feeling, what you’re excited about, and what might be making you nervous. We’ll look through the experiences we’ve planned together and make sure everything feels aligned.
Throughout your session, I’ll guide you every step of the way. You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands—that’s my job. Your job is simply to be present and trust the process.
After Your Session: Integration and Celebration
Here’s something most photographers won’t tell you: the magic doesn’t stop when the camera goes down. After your self love photo session, take time to integrate the experience. Journal about it. Share it with trusted friends. Notice how you feel differently in your body and in your life.
Many of my clients find that their session opens doors to deeper self love work. If that resonates, check out our upcoming events where we dive deeper into confidence coaching and bridal empowerment.
